Weaning from breast to spout - any success stories?

I recently read an article stating that it is indeed possible to wean your baby onto a cup/spout, cutting out the bottle stage completely. I am very interested in following this process and would welcome any suggestions in this regard. Any success stories from other mothers? I just know that it was a terrible struggle to get my baby off the dummy and I would prefer not going through the same with a bottle.

If used appropriately the bottle is not necessarily a bad thing, but it is definitely not essential.

I'm breast feeding at the moment but as I've had a breast reduction I have to give formula in bottles. I plan on using a cup for formula from when my baby is one year old.

A baby has a physiological need to suck until about 1 year of age, so don't wean from bottle to cup before this.

My baby has all water in cups - with and without spouts, though now that he holds his own cup, a spouted non spill one is best.

I plan on offering the morning and afternoon formula feeds (nanny gives them) by cup (first one and then when that's handed, the other). For his breast feeds, I will continue to give top ups of expressed breast milk and formula by bottle until I wean him off the brest (probably just after a year), and will then let him have all milk feeds by cup except the bedtime bottle, which I'll remove last, as I'll evovle the bedtime routine into a new bedtime routine that involves brushing teeth just before story time and sleep.

Hi Carika

I bought my little boy Baby's First Beaker about 2 weeks ago as he would not take a bottle. He is not too interested in the cup neither, but maybe you will have more success. My little one will not even take a dummy so you may have more success with your one. Good luck!
