Urgent Advice/Guidance-Blood in Stool

Good morning,

Some son is 6 months old. He's had diarrhea since 12 Jan, nothing on the 13th and then it started again and has continued since the 14th.
He's been on hydrol and reuteri drops. Finally got to see a paediatrician on 21 Janaury, who said that it's not infectious diarrhea and since it's not viral, he must be experiencing a food allergy. He is on rice cereal, soya milk and no fruit, with the exception of a little bit of banana for two weeks. She also prescribed one sachet of questran lite to add to his meals and formula and of course to continue with the reuteri drops and hydrol.
He's also now developed thrush. We used Nystacid (only 0.5mls and administered this twice only so far).
Yesterday, I noticed blood in his stool and rushed him to hospital.
His stool colour has also changed from yellow to brown.
The doctor examined him (his anus too) and said that she cannot determine where the blood is coming from and that it's not due to the diarrhea. She said that he's not dehydrated and still alert and his diarrhea isnt watery, just loose.
He hasnt been vomiting and had no fever-until last night. No fever, but vomited twice only-no vomiting again so far.
She said that the diarrhea is due to him teething (he has 6 out almost-two coming out simultaneously). Is this true? She didnt even collect a sample of the poo to send away for testing.
She did prescribe Ponstan 125mg, more rehidrat sachets and Flagyl 100mg to use along with the Nystacid.
My questions:
Is he not on too many meds?
What do I feed him-can I start introducing fruits/ other food/veggie combos again?
Most important-is this the Rotavirus?
How long is this going to last-surely his body cant keep up with much more and is it really because of him teething?
Shall I just visit my paed for a follow up?

I know that this seems extreme. I'm really anxious and I'd really appreciate your guidance!

Many thanks, once again!

Warm regards,

I am very concerned about your baby.Once he has a bloody diarrhoea it is known a dysentary. He has been ill for over 2 weeks and is not getting any better. The last thing that is causing this is his teething so ignore that completely. This is not due to a rotavirus infection either as he has been ill for too long. Food allergy especially a problem called cow's milk intolerance or a condition called eosinophilic gastroenteropathy are possibilities but he has not responded to being put on a soya formula.
Your paediatricians should have sent off a stool sample for culture as he may have an infection due to bacteria such as salmonella, yersinia or campylobacter. Please get a second opinion as soon as possible. He should not been on any medication other than the electrolyte solution until you know for sure what is causing this illness.
