Q.

Unhappy 8 year old

Hi There
I would really appreicate some advice as to whom I should be speaking to. My son has been desparately unhappy at school since the start of the year. At first I thought he would get over it but we are well into the second term and still he is unhappy. Sometimes I think he is just being lazy but now my gut is saying there must be something else. He didnt like his teacher at all at the begining and I did meet with her to find out if there were any problems but nothing really surfaced that was to be concerned about. He doesnt seem to have any problems with bullying at school either. A colleague has suggested I take him to OT. Do you think this is the right route to go? Should I speak to his teacher again? I am worried that she is the one making things difficult and so just covers it up when I speak to her.
Please can you advise me.

Thanks

Obviously something is making him unhappy at school. It could either be the teacher [I presume that he was fine at school last year] or someone is bullying him. If you can't find out what is causing this problem it would be best to speak to the principal. It would be no use taking him to a clinical psychologist if the problem is one that can easily be identified.
