Twitch and EEG

Good day Prof

A while ago I wrote you about my 8 month old son who has been twitching. You suggested that I take him for an EEG.

We went this morning and the EEG is perfectly normal. So, I''m waiting for feedback from my paed and he said, should the EEG be normal he will refer me to a paediatric neurologist. What other ilnesses or disorders will they be looking for? And would it be necessary? The person who did the test said that the babies he sees at the neurologist are really very ill.

It just looks like his whole body twitches. Not continuously (although that happened once) and he seems fine afterwards. Is epilepsy now completely off the table, or could it be that the EEG won''t pick up a mild case of it?

My son is otherwise healthy, except for his nasal drip. He started crawling just after 7 months and there is nothing else that we are worried about.

Should I just stop panicking?

Thanks so much

Thank you for giving me this information.I am pleased that your son has had the EEG done.I want to rule out the possibility that your baby has a condition called 'infantile spasms'. The normal EEG rules out two of the more severe forms of this condition, but the minor form still needs to be excluded. Your baby son needs to be seen by a neurologist. Do not be put off by what the EEG technician said. You need to get a definite opinion about your son.
