Q.

Tonsillectomy and ITP

Hello Doc
We have “chatted” before. My 6 yr old has ITP. He also suffers from chronic tonsillitis. The GP has recommended we see an ENT as his tonsils are in a “very bad way” I am petrified of the prospect of a tonsillectomy, he has had 2 hernia ops before with ITP and coped well with both even though the first surgeon did not perform the surgery correctly. Where can I find the best ENT in Gauteng. Prof Beale performed his 2nd hernia op and he was outstanding. I need to find an ENT like that. My child’s pead has emigrated and I now feel like I have no child specialist I can rely on. Please help!
Thanks
Amber

Paediatrician

The ENT surgeons are all excellent in Gauteng. There is no extreme urgency about the operation. Your best move would be to find a paediatrician first who will recommend an ENT for your son. Try and get an appointment with Dr Andre Van Niekerk at the Clinton Clinic in Alberton.
