tonsilectomy worries

my son is 3 years and is scheduled for a tosnsilectomy on Thursday. I am concerned as he had another bout of tonsilits over the weekend. Another concern is that my daughter and myself have a cold. I have had him at the paed and she days it is fine for him to go, but i still feel unsure because we are sick. What are the complications as i have heard some terrifying stories. Please advise if i should wait until the bug is out of my house

Your son cannot have his tonsils removed if he has infected tonsils now. Also it is better to wait until your whole family have recovered from your recent colds. The operation must be postponed.

My newphwe had his tonsils/Grommits and adnoids removed on the 26 August 08 and now is coughing terrible and waking up at night and cannot sleep. He has been for x-rays and they say that there is nothing on the chest, so they cannot say what it it. Please anyone if you have any thing that could help.

I would say speak to the ENT and raise your cocerns with him.

I have 3y old twins and their tonsils was removed in Jan, together I must say, and that was the best thing that I could' ve done for my kids.

I can surely say that they have not been sick since January even though it was a very though 2 weeks after the op. It is very saw and my son really battled to eat BUT it was worth it.

Good luck

My son' s tonsils were removed when he was 22 months old. I was also worried because he was still sick when they removed it. I spoke to the anesthetist about my concerns and he assured me that they are very carefull, as most children who need their tonsils removed are never completely well. Everything went well and I am very glad that they were removed as my son has not been nearly as sick since then. Good luck - give him lots of love and attention after the op
