Q.

Tongue / ulcers

2 months ago my 2 year old daughter had a layer of white stuff on her tongue, which was painfull, smelly, and she couldnt eat for days. Also had a big ulcer in the inside of her bottom lip. Eventually the doc gave her Dekatrin, which cleared it. He said it was some type of herpes..... Now it has come back again.... what is it caused by??

It may have been that she had Herpes stomatitis which is caused by the same Herpes virus that causes fever blisters, but it children it often involves the inside of the mouth. The Dactarin gel was probably because the doctor thought there was a co-existent fungal infection, which may sometimes happen. The best advice would be to have it re-evaluated by the same doctor as before if it persists or is very painful.
