Q.

TODDLER CRYING WHEN PUT TO SLEEP

IS IT BAD TO LET YOUR CHILD (1YR) TO CRY HIMSELF TO SLEP AT NIGHT? TRYING TO KEEP TO A ROUTEEN AT BEDTIME.

This is not harmful and often it is the only way to establish a routine, as long as you ensure that there is no reason e.g. a dirty nappy, being ill etc. You may provide some comfort after a few minutes to ensure him that you are present, then slowly decrease the comfort that you provide. Sometimes a water bottle provides some comfort and settles them down. It usually takes a few weeks to establish a new routine.

I agree with Dr Anonymous on this one. Letting your baby cry itself to sleep is a bit cruel.

You should not let him cry to sleep.

Sleep training does not mean you should let him cry to sleep.

There are some good articles on sleep training in "Your Baby Magazine" consult these.
