Thrush - 7 mth old

Dear Paed, my LO is 7 mths and has bad thrush, he is currently using Nystacid Oral Suspension but it is now day 7 and its still not cleared up, he is not eating too well, obviously because of the discomfort. The Dektarin Oral Gel is R240 and too pricey for us, is there anything else I can try or should I just persist with the Nystacid until it clears and how long can I use this for? How long does this normally take to clear? Many thanks

Nystatid usually works well.I hope that you are giving the correct dose. The dose is 1ml directly in your baby's mouth given 3 times a day. Thrush usually clears up within 5 days. It will help if you give your baby a probiotic as well such as Reuteri drops 1ml daily for 10 days.If your baby's thrush does not clear within the next 5 days after another course of Nysatid, then you should ask your doctor or clinic sister to see him.
