Your baby is still very young and not ready for a dummy yet. If he cries or cannot sleep he may be hungry or may have colic. Decide first what is causing your baby to cry well before thinking about using a dummy for such a young baby.

I have to disagree with the Paediatrition here. When my son was born nearly 3 years ago there was an article in the Beeld. They did studies on babies with and without dummies. Babies that suck on dummies have a lower risk of SIDS than babies without dummies.

In most NICU units they give prem babies dummies to stimulate the sucking reflex.

Give your baby the dummy. The glycerine on it will keep her mouth clean. You can put glucerine on once a day.

If your baby gags on the dummy the 1st time you put it in - dip it in glyserine - works fantastic!!!! I wish I knew abt dipping it in glyserine with my 1st child. My 2nd baby (now 8 wks) is a dream and whenever she cries I give her the dipped dummy - soothes her immediately...

My two eldest children used the dummy and there is nothing wrong with their teeth or jaws. My 4 month old baby loves her dummy and will not go to sleep without it. It is commomly used as a security blanket.
