This sounds like an extremely severe eye infection in your baby. It is important to take her to your doctor for treatment. In the meantime clean her eyes with a dilute salt solution. Use a quarter teaspoon salt in a cup of boiled and cooled water and wipe her eyes twice daily using clean cotton wool swabs.

My daughter (8) has had a red starburst with a white pimple-like infection (?) on her eye for two days. We don' t know what this is and whether she should go to the Dr or not. It doesn' t hurt but is very itchy.

Thanks
Michelle

Dip the cotton wool in salt water (luck warm) and always wash from the outside towards the nose. My baby had the same in one eye. It can actually cause pain if the eyelids get stuck together when the puss dry. You can get an ointment from the pharmacy that will work in two days and save on doctor's costs. I took my baby to doctor and paid R450 just to get a S2 (over the counter) ointment that costed R15!!!! and worked like a bomb!!
