Q.

Teething & sleeping

My babyboy of 7months has been sleeping through since 9 weeks old. He got his first 2 teeth at 51/2 months. Since then he is waking up during the night. He just starts crying and if I give him his dummy most of the time he immediately falls asleep. About 3 weeks ago he had very bad middle ear infection which in the end were sorted out with grommets and he is now back to his normal self. After that his sleeping also started to improve gradually, but since this weekend he is waking up crying nearly every hour, which is very tiring for us as parents. Since last Thursday he also had 3-5 stools a day, it is really soft but not runny. It smells sour and he starts crying when is nappy is soiled as if it is burning is bum. He has had no fever, and are drinking and eating as normally. Has been a very happy child, did not seem as anything is bothering him. Everybody said he is teething, but how long is this going to last? or could it be something else. You advise would be appreciated.

Paediatrician

Your son's behaviour could be due to teething, but with his history of ear problems you need to be sure that this problem has not recurred. He should be checked by his paediatrician.
