TB - 4 year old symptoms

We recently found out that there is a possibility that our helper could have TB. She is not with us at the moment but my 4 year old son was in close contact with her. He had a cough a few days ago that seems to be clearing up but we are concerned about the possibility of him contacting TB. Should we have him tested? If so is the test done via a blood or urine test? Also is there a waiting period before the virus can be detected?

Your son had the BCG immunisation at birth, so he should have some immunity against TB infection. Having been in close contact with an adult with possible TB is still of concern and it is definitely necessary that he be tested for TB. The test is a skin test and can be done at your nearest health clinic or by your doctor.
