Hi, I'm just going to ask this seeing as its been on my mind all day.

How often do kids throw temper tantrums? Our friends child is almost three and she throughs a tantrum for all to hear 5 days out of the week! and Im not talking about the tipes they through when they don't get what they want, I'm talking about seriouse sceaming and crying for all to hear blocks away. This carries on for about an hour or two and then she calms down .

I'm just asking because I don't have kids yet and I really want to help my friend. I don't see a problem with the dissipline they practice and that's why I'm worried. Could there be a medical reason for this behaviour?

This problem of temper tantrums is very common indeed in children of this age. The tantrums need to be handled properly and in particular the child must not have an audience every time she starts with a tantrum. Her parents must leave the room immediatelty she starts to perform and only re-enter when she has calmed down.Of course they should ensure that she won't be able to hurt herself on anything in the room before they leave the room. It is not possible to deal with tantrums in pre-school children by trying to reason with them or plead with them to stop.

Hi there. i have a three year old that recently started daycare. He has had a full time nanny prior to this. He has been trowing tantrums from the second week of daycare. His Teachers say that he is the most well behave child in his class, however at home the tantrums can last up to 2 hours. i have tried leaving him in his room, naughty corner, coercing him and even ignoring him. My husband and i argue continuously about how i handle the tantrums and it is putting a strain on our marriage. I desperately need advice.
