Q.

Talk & walk

Good day Doc, my son turned 3 yrs on the 10th September 2007 and at his age is it normal for him not to be able to talk and walk by himself. What happened is he used to walk and his speech was not bad until he got very sick and now all those seems to have vanished. He uses walls or furniture to walk and when talking he can only say dad, mom, food and look. I am very worried with his state currently so please help.

I am sorry to have to tell you that your son's devlopment is very far behind the normal. Of course he should be walking normally at his age and saying very much more than he is doing. Please have him assessed by a developmental paediatrician or paediatric neurologist. There are experts in all the main centres in SA and at the main provincial hospitals as well.
