Q.

Stuttering

My daughter is 22 months, and for the past two months she has been stuttering the words mama and papa. On Sat is noticed that her nose was running a bit, and since then the stuttering has increased. Last night she could not says baba and ran to me in frustration. At her age she does talk allot. My dad stutters quite a bit and I read somewhere that it is hereditary. What do I do? Could this be linked to the flu or ears - cos she has had grommets put in - and they have fallen out.

Some stuttering is normal at this age, especially if children are excited. The best is to calm them down and ask them to repeat what they wanted to say slowly, without putting any addisional pressure on them. I do not think it is linked to the ears. Show het lots of love and affection.
