Strange stools

My 18 month old who is prone to bouts of constipation has being having strange stools. They are fairly soft and yellowish and smell terrible. It also causes a rash even though I change straight away. Nothing has changed in the diet and I do not give him citrus. All fruit juice is watered down. Is this some sort of stomach flu?

Your toddler's stools have a bad smell and are soft and seem to be rather acid. It may be that he has a mild form of toddler's diarrhoea. This may be the result of a temporary intolerance to fructose the natural sugar in fruit. Eliminate all fruit and fruit juices from his diet and see if he improves. Give him at least 3 days off fruit to give him the chance to recover.Let me know if he does not get better. If you write again I need to know your son's weight.
