Q.

stopping all milk

my daughter is 14 months old. my problem is that no milk seems to agree with her. she tested positive to a dairy allergy i then put her on soya long life but she has had a runny tummy & cramps ever since. ive just been giving her juice, rooibos tea & water for the last three days. her stools are fine. she is more friendly and pleasant. is it safe to stop all milk as early as 14 months? what calcium supplement do you recommend?

thank you kindly.

It is alright to stop milk as long as she is taking a full mixed diet with adequate protein intake. She does need a calcium supplement. Please speak to your pharmacist about this.

One get these Choccyvites Calcium (I think from Dischem?), which are really quite tasty and more like a treat. You can also dissolve it in the rooibos. One a day is enough. My son has also been taken off all milk (soy, cow etc), but my paed said that he didn't need a calcium supplement if he was eating yoghurt every day. He has 3 to 4 of these Woollies toddler yoghurts (full cream) every day (if he had a choice he wouldn't eat anything else!!). I'm planning to get the Choccyvites too, though.
