sticky eyes

My small baby is suffering from sticky eyes (yellow mucus), he was born prematurely I don''t know if this has anything to do with it. The sticky eye started when he was still in the nicu.
The paed prescribed something that was applied for 5 days then it cleared, a week later it started again and the Dr prescribed a different eye drop called ciloxan to be applied 5 days also. it cleared.
Now it''s after a week again and it has started again, I don''t know what to do. he is 6 weeks old

Try wiping your baby's eyes at least twice daily using a dilute salt solution. Make up the solution by adding a quarter of a teaspoonful of salt to a cup of boiled and cooled water. Wipe your baby's eyes from the side closest to his nose outwards and use a clean piece of cotton wool dipped in the salt solution each time.If your baby's eyes do not improve after 5 days, please take him back to the doctor. The cause may be that he has blocked tear ducts.

When my baby had this problem, the doc did say it was a blocked tear-duct, and to gently massage the inner corner (closer to nose bridge) of his eyes, and i do this regularly. He is now 8 months and when I do not not massage for a few days the problem starts, after a massage it gets better.
Try this and see what happens. (Massage the corner in a circular motion with your little finger)
