Spider Veins

Hi Dr
Welcome back! Hope you had a peaceful and restful festive season.
I have a quick q, I have been meaning to make an appointment for my son but have not got round to it as one, it is not that serious and two I don''''t know whether my best bet is a paed, gp or dermatologist? My son has fair and sensitive skin. I am meticulous with sunscreen, hats, sunglasses etc so he has never been burnt but the skin on his face is getting really bad. He has lots of fine broken veins all over his cheek/jawbone and they are mostly quite rosy. The veins/capillaries are looking rather bad at the moment. I don''''t know if it is the heat aggravating the situation? Is there anything over the counter that I can try in the meantime? I''''d like to stay away from cortisone if it is avoidable. At the moment we use a range of moisturizes from Physiogel to Epimax and other eczema lotions. I confess, I am not diligent with moisturizing for the simple fact that my son fusses allot with creams so I save the ''''fighting'''' for sunscreen which is not negotiable.
Once again, thank you for all your advise.

Thank you for your kind words. You have not mentioned your son's age. Young children do not usually have these visible fine capillaries in the skin of the face. You must continue to use the sunscreen every day and also ensure that he takes extra vitamin C daily to strengthen his capillaries.Your son must wear a hat when he is outside in the sun.Cortisone creams or ointments will make this problem worse so avoid them.He needs to be seen by a dermatologist.
