Speech - 7yrs old

My 7yrs old goes for speech theraphy as he has a speech problem.

Recently - my nephew who is hearing impaired and who could hardly speak properly had the skin under his tongue snipped and he is now talking beautifully. They say that he has a short tongue and my son also has a short tongue which cant reach his right out of his mouth.

Can you please advise what this procedure is called and if all Paed can carry it out as i was told that its a simple procedure.

The problem you mention is called tongue tie. In most cases this disappears by itself as the tongue tie stretches as the child grows. This is usually before the age of 7 years. If your son still has tongue tie which would be very unusual then ask the speech therapist whether she thinks that this may be affecting your son's speech. If she does then your son should see a paediatric surgeon.
