Q.

sore throat that won't go away

My son who is 3, has had a sore throat (it is red and inflamed, but doesn't seem to bug him) it has been going on for a few months now, he has had two courses of anibiotics and it is still there. there is also a gland in his neck - only one side, that has been swollen for as much time and doesn't seem to go down. he has never been a good sleeper, he snores and tosses all night long. he has no itching or sneezing alergy symptoms. should i get him to an ENT? what else can i do?? Generally he is a very happy child. it seems to bother me more than him!

There may be several reasons for the symptoms you describe. In his case the most likely is recurrent or chronic tonsillitis due to chronic streptococcal infection. He also seems to have enlarged adenoids as he is snoring. This is not due to an allergy. He needs to see an ENT specialist.
