Solids, textures &  iron!

I have a question regarding solids &  textures. I started my baby on solids at +- 4 1/2 months (just rice cereal) as he is a big boy (almost 7 months &  9.4 kg).

According to most books &  websites, he is still in the first stage of baby food (very fine pureed fruit &  veggies). Because I started him early, should I be moving onto stage 2 (more lumpy etc). Most of his food is a bit lumpy anyway as I mix my own homemade stuff together &  it' s never been truly smooth!

With regards to lumps - is this statement true: as long as the lumps are small &  soft, the risk of choking is almost non-existent?

I haven' t started him on protein yet &  am concerned that he is lacking in iron as he get restless from about 2am onwards. Should I have him on an iron supplement?

Thank you,

You do not need to give your baby an iron supplement. He is definitely ready for the next stage of Purity which is more textured. There is no danger of your baby choking on this kind of food. You can certainly introduce chicken into his diet now.
