Q.

sleeping problems of 2 year old

It has been about 3 months since my husband and I have had a night of uninterrupted sleep.

My daughter (will be two on 14/11/2004) keeps waking at about 1-2am, and then at 5-6am every morning. We have tried putting her to bed later, doesn't work. She generally goes to bed at 7h30 to 8pm every night.

I thought it may be the cot causing a problem (at school she sleeps on a matress and can come and go as she pleases - she seemed to get very frustrated at being unable to move freely and also, I could not lie down with her when the need arose, since the cot was too small for both of us), so we changed her to a normal single bed about a month ago, still no joy. Now she can get out and proceeds to do so every morning. I have to get into bed with her every night to settle her and then again at 1 or 2am, when she wakes. She wont stay in her bed unless I stay with her till she falls asleep. She is not in any pain and her room temperature is between 20-22 degrees celsius. We leave her door slightly ajar, but even closing it has not made any difference. A night light has also not helped. We do not know what else to try. Have started her on Rescue Remedy tablets 2 nights ago, but know that homeopathic remedies take a while to have effect - no joy yet.

Any suggestions?

There are no easy solutions and definitely not an indication to use medication. This is part of the joys of parenthood and you need to find your own creative solutions. Providing undue comfort will probably only enhance the interrupted sleeping pattern.
