Q.

sleeping

hi doc, I don't understand why my 16 month old's sleeping patterns have changed, but nowadays he will wake up in the middle of the night screaming and after much pacifying will go back to sleep, but then almost always wakes at around 4 again, once again needing to be pacified, and then sleeps till about 6. He never used to do this and needless to say it's exhausting, any ideas? Do we let him cry it out?

He seems to be having a problem calleed 'night terrors' which is very common at his age. The good news is that this is a rapidly passing phase, but the right thing to do is to go to him and pacify him. He will benefit from a nightlight in his room.
