Q.

Sleep walking & restlesness

My 9 year old son since a very young age has a problem; he sleep walks. He needs to feels someon else next to him then he sleeps through. He is always dreaming about programmes he watches or things he hears, with the result he does not sleep properly and disturbs the rest of the household because he will get up and climb in with his sister or in our bed.

He has dark rings around his eyes.

Is there anything I can do or use to help him.

Thanx

Unfortunately I am not aware of any medicine that will rmedy this and giving a sedative will not be a long term solution. The usual thing will apply; to keep a child to a strict routine at night time, to prevent exposure to disturbing scenes in movies etc. and maybe to alllow him to lie with someone if he is really restless. Normally the sleep walking does not truly disrupt his sleep, but if you truly feel he is not getting enough sleep an afternoon nap may be needed on some days. It may also be worthwhile to consider other causes for the tiredness and blue rings under the eyes.
