Hi Doc

My 5 month little girl has seems to have no appetite. The Paed says she drinks so little as she has reflux. She seems to drink well (700ml) per day for a week or two then it goes badly again for a while where i battle to get her to drink 400-500 ml a day. Have started giving her rice cereal and Purity carrots which she loves but she screams when that milk bottle comes close to her. She is on Losec. I know she is underweight...birthweight was 3.065...she now only weighs 6 kg. She is 22 weeks old. She is VERY happy, alert and full of energy.

Should i carry on worrying about her drinking habits or should I just accept it now?? Im tired of crying over how little she drinks...

What can I give her for constipation? Her Novalac AR is the only formula she will take now but it constipates her...

Pls help!!!

Your baby daughter's weight is indeed very low for her age. The average weight for a baby girl of 5 months is 6.9kg.Her formula should be her main source of nutrition. She is probably struggling to suck the thicker anti-reflux formula and this is also making her constipated. So this formula should be stopped. She should go onto Lactogen1 formula which will also help for her constipation. She needs about 850ml of formula per day. She is on Losec for her reflux so she should be fine.If you see her refluxing then she may need to go onto Motilium in addition to the Losec.
