my baby has had a runny nose & cough as well as difficulties in breathing since 2 weeks old because he was so young not much could be done i bought a humidifier to help him breathe a bit easiar.i cant say hes symptoms went away it just got a bit better, now at 6 weeks the cough has got worse but this time hes ose is blocked i took him to hospital they said he had a respiratory tract infection & gave me saline drops and antibiotics. I could only use the antibiotics for 1 week and only 1ml a time and he still has not got better at 7 weeks i rushed him to the hospital again cause he was fery week and throwing up milk as well as phlem the doc said he had the `rotavirus and nothing is wrong with hes breathing but you could hear how he was batteling to breathe the doc gave me rehydrating slts for baby not to dehydrate and that was it, said he must drink salts for two days no milk what a nightmare my child was constatly hungry. he is 8 weeks now and weighs 5.7 but has still not got better especially at night hes nose & coughing worsens im worried & dont know what to do as i cant afford to take him to a private paed ,,,PLEASE HELP

It is important to find out the cause of your baby's chest problem. I suspect that it is due to reflux but without being able to see him,I cannot be sure. He needs to be seen by a paediatrian. You can take him to the paediatric out patient department of any of the large teaching hospitals in all the main centres of SA where he will be seen and examined by a paediatrician.
