Shoes for 1yrd old

Good day!

Please advise how important it is for a 1yr old to wear the correct shoes. I''ve heard of " elephantys"  and Woolworths has this new one called " walkmates"  that is approved by board of peaditriacs, which is obviously a bit more pricy compared to shoes you would buy at jet or ackermans, which i''ve heard it not the correct shoes, as they don''t give the proper support and baby''s feet will not grow properly if he doesn''t wear proper shoes. Is this true?

Yes it is true that babies need the correct shoes with good arch supports and plenty of space for their toes to spread out normally when they walk.

Personally, I preferred not to put my son in shoes at a year old. Although he''d been walking for nearly three months already, I thought it was important that he learn to use his toes properly for gripping as he walked and ran.

I only started him in shoes when he started pre-primary at the age of 2, they encouraged the children to be barefoot as much as possible though, so he generally just liked the novelty of wearing them in the car on the way to school and then taking them off in his classroom (it used to distract him as I kissed him goodbye). As he was barely in the shoes I just bought him a pair of those fake crocs and in winter put them on with socks.

Now that he''s six, I buy him green cross shoes for school, the school that he attends has a uniform and so they wear the same shoes every day and the cheaper shoes only last about 2 months, the green cross ones manage to hang in for 6 months and he finds them more comfortable. I buy his home boots and takkies from teh walkmates range and he has a pair of crocs, his slops and slippers come from Ackermans and Pep though.
I buy all his clothes at Ackermans, jet and pep, but I do feel that feet need to be in shoes that are comfortable and that aren''t tight, I think that well fitting shoes that don''t push and prod toes and heels is the important thing.
