Hi Doc,

My 18mnths old daughter doesnt like sharing with other kids, whether its toys or anything. she is an only child and she is not at daycare. should i be concerned about this selfish behaviour or is it a phase that everychild go through?? to mention i am a 1st time mother and she is with my mother during the day.

Many toddlers are not keen to share their toys with others.In fact this is perefctly normal behaviour at this age.Try to teach your little girl to share her toys,but do not worry too much if she will not cooperate at this stage.Praise any sharing that she is prepared to do. Invite other children of her age to come to your home so that she can learn more about socialising and sharing.If a dispute arises over a toy immediately try to divert her attention and the attention of the other child involved by offering a snack or by giving them each a ball to play with.
