Severe Cramping

My baby boy of nearly 4 weeks seems to be suffering from severe cramping. Wehave had him on Novalaoc AR formula (as he also seems to have an immature reflux. He was drinking between 100ml & 250ml at a feed, he would be awakefor between 2 & 4 hours feeding. We switched to the Novolac AC formula last night. He seems be drinking less now and going to sleep sooner after a feed. It still seems however that he has severe cramps. It constantly looks as if he is constipated although he pooh's a few times day. He is also constantly streching with the cramps. Please let me know what you sugest. SHould i take him to the doctor?

Your baby is having a problem with colic, but seems a bit better on the regular Novalac. His constipation may improve as well with the change to a regular formula.Ask your pharmacist for a mild infant colic remedy such as Bennets Colic treatment and see if this helps. If the problems persist you will need to see your paediatrician.

I know exactly what you are going through as I went through exactly the same thing with my daughter. It is colic and the baby screams in pain and lifts there legs up. The only thing that worked for my baby out of changing formulas and a million trips to the paed was to buy Buscopan for infants! She usually had her worst attacks after her 6pm bottle. give her the dose required and it helps them immediately. She also had the reflux up until 9 months which is terrible as you are constantly changing them. That was more irritating but at least she was not in pain. You can also try the gavison for infants with her feeds for the reflux. Good luck! Try the buscopan though it is the only remedy for infant colic - let me know if it worked!!!!

Try Rooibos tea - Annique Baby Rooibos tea has anti-colic and a lot of other benefits. You can also use it as a base to prepare your baby's bottle - in stead of the water you use the rooibos tea and add the formula to the tea. Baby massage will alo help to relax him.
