Runny tummy

I introduced solids to my son just a week before he turned six months. Up intil then, he was on breast whenever I was home and formula (Nan) during working hours. for solids, i made him mainly apple puree, mango puree, (sweet) potatoes, and avos. We would give him one serving of the same fruit or veg for two days to see how well he took to it and if there' d be any bad reaction.

With solids, he started having frequent stool movement, like 3-4 times a day unlike before when he had just one a day. Things detoriated to diarrhoea in the second week, and so I pulled out the solids. It just persisted and I also had to take him off his formula. He got better. After five days without any runny tummy, I have introduced formula again, but what happens is that his stool becomes runny after he has his bottle.

Is he reacting to formula or solids? For two days now, he ate his potatoes and nothing happened because we just gave him rooibos and apple juice instead of Nan? Do you think I should change the formula? I breast feed him before going and the little amount of milk I express a day is enough for his cereal and mid-morning bottle.

This is difficult to answer with certainty. It may be that you introduced too many solids into your baby's diet when he turned 6 months especially the mango and avocado. Now I am not sure if he has developed another problem such as milk allergy or lactose intolerance. Try him on a low allergy formula such as NAN HA 2 and see if he improves. Let me know what happens.
