Q.

Rooibos Tea - Iron Absorption?

My LO was diagnosed with low iron levels. She is taking Chela-Fer now to help with the problem. She used to drink 1 bottle of (very diluted) rooibos tea every day. I've heard some doctors say that rooibos tea prevents the absorption of iron. Is this true? I've started her on diluted juice instead, but I would still like to know if there is true?

Regular tea can prevent iron absorption but I have not ever heard that rooibos tea can interfere with iron absorption.

Katy, my pead told me it only affects their iron absorption if they drink LOTS of rooibos tea. I doubt whether 1 bottle would affect it at all. He just said not to give rooibos right before/during or right after a meal. Only after about 40 min.

I forgot to mention that she is now about 15 months old.
