Ritalin is a valuable drug if used under the right circumstances with adequate supervision. Children may become emotionally dependant, but not on the crug itself. There is some concern about increased risk of becoming dependant on other drugs in later life, but this risk is very small and you may discuss it with the doctor under whose care he receives his Ritalin.
