Q.

Ritalin Vs Concertta

Dear Doc
My 10-year-old son is on 1 x Ritalin 20mg LA per day. He is very short and his endocrinologist has suggested a change from Ritalin to Concertta to see if his appetite will increase and hopefully lead to him growing a bit better. Could you give any advice on side effects of concertta compared to Ritalin? I have also put him on ensure shakes 3 x a day to try and increase his calorie intake. Which of the shakes on the market are the best for children?
Thank you
Concerned Mum

Ritalin has the side effect of suppressing the appetite in some children. His dose seems a bit high and he could probably drop the dose to 10mg daily given first thing in the morning.Concerta does not interfere with growth so it may be a better choice.
Ensure is a very good dietary supplement.
