Q.

Rhinitis

Dr....I've got 2 questions: Both my boys have terrible rhinitis.....The oldest one(4yr) drink Zyrtec daily and the youngest(2 months) had Zyrtec(1 dropx2daily) for 5 days....My 1 question: What's the difference between rhinitis, a cold and URI, because to me the symptoms looks so much the same.... Second question: What's your opinion regarding giving Zyrtec to an infant of 2 months old? Thanx

Rhinitis is an inflammation of the mucus membrane inside the nose cause by an allergy. It is highly unlikely that your baby has an allergic cause for his nasal symptoms.Although Zyrtec drops are very safe even in young babies it will not help to clear his nose. Rather use infant saline nose drops twice daily to clear his nose.If this does not help go back to your paeditrician.
