This is indeed very common. Fortunately it can be easily diagnosed these days and corrected early. Do not hesitate to follow the advice of your paediatrician.

Hi Paranoid,

I suggest you buy the latest issue of YOUR BABY magazine as they have an excellent article in there on REFLUX - with lots of hints, plus a good explanation!

What 'been there' says is correct - my little one had a mild reflux (she is just over 4 months old now and it is a lot better) and I was always walking around with a nappy on my shoulder and it gets scary when she brings up. My doctor prescribed Motilium - 10 minutes before a feed - as I also breastfed and it calmed down a lot. She was gaining weight very well so nothing further was done - after ruling out pyloric stenosis.

Your Baby and Living and Loving magazines are an invaluable help to me raising my baby - even though I am a third time mom ....

Good luck and hang in there.

Dear Paranoid

My baby boy is now 9 months old and the first 6 months of his life have been pure hell for him as well as for us. He was also born with reflux and it is not pleasant for baby of for the parents. We had an ultrasound barium meal done on him to rule out pyloric stenosis which is projectile vomiting. If your little one is diagnosed with this the only cure is a very simple op but one which is effective immediately. We didnt go that route because my son just had plain reflux. He was put on Zantac syrup for the burning and we had to add a thickener to his feeds which was difficult as I was breastfeeding. The good news is that they do grow out of it and I am happy to say that my little one hasnt puked since he was 7 months. Good luck!!
