Reflux - constipation - weight in baby

Hi, my daughter is 4 mnths old and started suffering from reflux 2 weeks ago. 1st tried gaviscon baby - she got constipated. Changed her formula to Anti Reflux one - worked well but she got even more constipated. Friend suggested to use usual formula and mix in rice cereal to thicken milk - works well but now my daughter picked up 500g of weight in one week. If I carry on like that, she will pick up too much weight. Another friend suggested to mix Anti Reflux formula and usual formula 50/50. Does not work. Would you have any suggestions what else one can do?
Thank you - Angie

Thickening her feed with the rice cereal seems to help the best. Try it again an and add very little eg 1 teaspoonful per feed.If the weight problem recurs ask yor paediatrician to see your baby. There are very effective anti-reflux treatments available.

HI angie,

My baby is nearly 12 months old now. She had the same problem since birth. I tried gaviscon for babies, nestrogel (she refused to drink her botel with nestrogel in it). At 5 months another pediatrician recommended Noval AR to us. It's a wonderful product. She gained weight, kept her feeds in. She still battles with constipation though and another docter advised us that we must add Duphalex with every bottle and it workes. At 7 months my mom gave her some Nutrifix mixed with yoghurt (just a bit so that is not to dry) and you can also mix it with purity prunes. It works. I still give it to her on a regular basis together with Pear and Prune Juice.

Good Luck

Try using nestagel in her formula.

It's made by nestle and quite hard to find. I contacted nestle directly on their customer care number 086 009 6116 and they organised a tin (R120) to be sent to be by courier by the next day. one tin can last 3-4 months:)
