It is difficult to be sure about your daughter's diagnosis without being able to examine her. What you need is a clear diagnosis of her illness. It does not seem to be asthma as she would not have an ear infection each time with asthma and she is now too old for the diagnosis of bronchiolitis. There are at least 2 conditions which need to be excluded; firstly a condtion called immotile cilia syndrome and secondly, just to be sure we need to exclude cystic fibrosis. Her allergic status and her immunity need to be assessed as well. It is essential that your daughter sees a paediatric pulmonologist. There are experts in all the main centres in SA.
