Re: Constipated baby

Dear Doc

I asked you yesterday about my baby who is constipated and I have been giving her milk of magnesia. This is the response you gave me
" You do not mention which formula your baby is on. It would be best to change her formula to Lactogen1 and see if this helps her constipation. Just before changing her to the new formula you can use one infant glycerine suppository, followed by one suppository the next day as well"
I am breastfeeding only, not using formula. Does this mean I should start giving her formular? I am scared of mixing breastmilk and formula because she is only 5 months old? Do I start giving her Lactogen?

It is very unusual for a baby who is being exclusively breastfed to be so constipated. There must be a reason for this problem. You should not change her to a formula if you are breastfeeding your baby.Do not give her Milk of Magnesia. We need to find out why she is so constipated. Please take your baby to be seen by a paediatrician.
