RE: 10 month old daughter''s weight " off the charts"

Hi Dr.
I am concerned, my just 10 month old daughter weighs 12.5 kgs and is 76cm. She wears 18-24 month old clothes. my husband and I are neither large people. She eats three healthy meals a day (I make all my own baby food and she eats everything...yoghurt, eggs, cottage cheese, fish etc), she eats fruit or a rice cracker for a snack and drinks 500ml of formulae milk daily, spread over 2.5 milk bottles (would drink more if we gave her!) Inbetween she drinks water from a sippy cup (NO juice or sugar in any way or form). She has not begun crawling yet, but can shuffle on her bottom or reaches realllly far to get something she wants. Developmentally she is on target. Should I cut doen her milk feeds...She''s on the 100th percentile is this ominous for her being obese in the future or will she " lose"  it all once she comes more active? Thank you

There is no doubt that your baby daughter's weight is off the chart. Her present weight is above the 99th percentile for weight on the infant growth chart. However her height is also far above the average and is on the 91st percentile line,in the top 9% for baby girls of 10 months. This is unusual as nether you nor your husband are big people. She will trim down a bit when she is mobile but I do not expect this to be that much. Her weight and height are likely to remain well above the average for the rest of her life. Her diet seems to be good. It seems that your daughter is following the growth pattern of someone in the family possibly one of her grandparents who is much bigger than average.
