I have a question regarding autism, it is something I started to hear about after I became a mother, all along I did not know there was such desease. Now I have a terrible fear that my son might have this disorder, he is now 4 years old. He only started talking when he was 3yrs which is the 1st symptom another symptom is that he does like to eat variety of food. At first I thought it' s because of his allergies, he was tested for allergies when he was 11mnths and he had milk, egg and peanut butter allergies. I don' t think he is still allergic because now he can eat things with milk like yorgut and white tea. but he refuses to drink milk as it is or to eat sour milk. he is not keen to try new food, no rice for him. he prefers pap or bread. another thing is that now he can go to the toilet by himself but he took long to master potty training. I' m really worried, was autism around all along? Is it possible that I might have it also and passed it to him without my knowledge because I' m a really quite person. I don' t do well in social gatherings, I' m extremely shy.

Autismis a specific condition where children do not communicate at all with adults or children near to or around them.It is much more than just shyness.Autistic children also show repetitive behaviour doing the same thing over and over again. They show little or no interest in their surroundings.Again this is much more than the shyness which you say you experience.Your son has been a bit slow to start talking but he now can talk normally. He seems to communicate normally with you.Potty training is often delayed in little boys but your son has now been potty trained. He may be a bit shy but otherwise does not show any of the symptoms of autism,so please do not worry about him.
