Problem with son

My son will be 3 in June. He has always been a bad sleeper and has literally only slept through the night maybe five times. My problem is that not only is he not sleeping through the night, he is constantly miserable.
He wakes up moaning, whinging and crying, stays in the same miserable mood all day and then goes to sleep the same way. I have a 12 year old and a 9 year old who I had no problems with with regards to sleep training and I am already sleep training my 5 month old so I fail to believe that it is my parenting style. Also, I can''t believe anymore that he is in this mood because he is tired, that just doesn''t wash anymore.
When he does wake up at night, he cries and moans constantly and although I have now stopped getting up for him, my husband still does, which does not help the situation. The two problems, the sleeping and the mood, are obviously related but he is such a miserable child. I can''t take it anymore. My older one''s were never whiners as I never tolerated it. I do the same with him but it is not working.

I have done the courses, got the books etc etc but nothing seems to be working with him.

What the heck do I do so I don''t lose my sanity?

Whingeing is an activity that young children often indulge in but when it becomes chronic like it is with your son it can be very stressful. Judging by your reaction you are at the end of your tether and you already have another baby to look after as well.It is difficult to deal with whingers. Try to divert his attention and if this does not work ignoring him may be the best option. If he moans and is miserable during the day send him to his room until he is ready to come out again.Children who whinge seem to improve when they are outside and often enjoy outings and car trips.
