Q.

Prevenar Injections

Please advise me as to whether these are totally necessary. My Paed in Durban has informed me that these are a waste of money and i must not have them done even though they are now on the government list. He says the reason is its a live virus and there are too many babies not having it done.

This is a very worthwhile immunisation and is a bacterial vaccine, not a viral one at all. It is very highly recommended as it protects children against a terrible form of mennigitis and also against some forms of pneumonia.I cannot imagine why your paediatrician advised against this vaccination.
