poor eater

Hi doc! My 13 month old daughter is a poor eater. She barely eats anything all day &  survives on breastmilk. I''ve tried to cut down on the breastfeeding so she can start eating better but to no avail. She''s not interested in drinking pediasure. I recently put her on vi-daylin drops. Pls advise me on what to do as I''m really stressed out. What am I doing wrong? I''ve seen many babies with great appetites. Pls help.

I want to answer your question but before I can do so I need to know about your baby's weight. If possible please send her height as well, but her weight is essential.

At about a year babies rate of growth slows down a little, so they often eat less or become a bit fussy.

At this stage however her solid foods are more important nutritionally than the milk she gets, so always offer solids first and milk afterwards.

Just make sure that everything you offer her is healthy and there are no chips or sweets or biscuits so that everyting that does go in is serving a purpose.

Has she ever been a good eater? How was she when you started her on solids?

Perhaps try offering different foods, so give something sweet like fruit (it will never be as sweet as breastmilk so don''t worry about the old wives tale about her not eating veggies if you give fruit first), or if you do already give proper food, then maybe try some baby cereal, maybe she would like the bland runniness.
