Q.

poo problem

doc,

my 18 month old boy has stools 3-6 times a day. is this normal? it's not diarrhoea for sure, but he gets horrible nappy rash at least once a week because of this. i've taken him to my gp who said she's not worried about it. i use only the best nappies and clean his bums thoroughly, and have tried various creams and concoctions from the pharmacy to no avail.
i did send stools for tests some 6 months ago and results came back normal except that there were some food rests.

any advice?

Thanks.

This is a very common problem called 'toddler's diarrhoea' The main cause is too much fruit juice and fruit in the diet. Try him off all fruit juices and see if he improves. This form of diarrhoea usually does not last for more than a month or two but tends to cause a lot of irritation around the anus.
