Q.

Pneumonia

For the second year in a row my 6 year old daughter has been admitted into hospital with pneumonia. I live in a very cold area (Bergville Northen Drakensberg KZN) so I`m not sure if it has anything to do with the cold, but I`d like to get the problem sorted out once and for all please advise as to what I should do. Someone has suggested tonsil removal I`m not sure if this will help.

First you need to get a proper diagnosis of her problem as achild of this age should not have had pneumonia twice. You need to find out if her immunity is normal or if she has another illness making her vulnerable to pneumonia. She needs to be seen by a paediatrican with an interest in respiratory illnesses in children. There are experts in all the large cenres in SA.
