Penis issue

Morning doctor

Need your help once again.

Please tell me, must I pull back my son' s foreskin? Some paeds told me to do it as far as it can go and other suggested that I just leave it alone. He will start doing it himself when he is a bit older.

From birth I pulled it back slightly to clean it (not forcing it in any way), but lately it pulls back a bit further. Sorry for my ignorance, but I also want to know what must the color of his penis (the inside part) be? My husband was circumsized when he was 3 days old, so his cannot assist me in any way with this matter.

Please advise me on this, as I' m scared that what I' m doing might cause damage or it may grow " attached" . I dont want to end up with problems later as we DO NOT want to circumsize our little boy. He is now 15 months old.

Thank you doctor. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Do not pull back your baby son's foreskin. There is no need to do this. Just keep his penis clean by lightly washing with a soft cloth when he is in the bath. The normal colour of the penis tip is a pinkish red.

Do not retract the foreskin - not even gently - as this cal lead to tearing - and tearing can cause permanent adhesion.

As your son ages, the foreskin and penis head will naturally seperate (just as a puppys eyes open - same process).

Refer to on information on how to treat your son' s foreskin.
