Parents bed

Dear Doc. 2 questions. My son is 2.5 years old. He has sometimes come through to our bed at night, we have occasionally let him sleep with us on occasopm. Now he is comhing through every nite about 3 - 4 times a night. We take him back to his bed and tell him to go back to sleep. He also only sleeps from about 8:30pm till 5:45 with a 2 hour nap during the day. It just seems that he does need more sleep. I dont know what to do?

Your little son sleeps for 9 and a quarter hours at night and for 2 hours during the day, making a total of 11and a half hours per day. This is well within the normal period of 10 to 12 hours per day that children of this age need to sleep.Your son is getting used to coming to your bed and if you let him get into your bed it will only make him more determined to keep coming to your bed. You need to make it clear to him that he cannot sleep in your bed and he needs to be taken back to his bed each time he appears. It may take a while but he will eventually learn that he needs to sleep in his own bed. Keep on reminding him that he is a 'big boy' now who sleeps in his own bed in his own room.
