My daughter is 2 yrs old and is struggling to recover from a viral infection (diagnosed by our GP and her paediatrician). It has been 2 weeks now and she''s had gastro which has now subsided, high fevers which are still ongoing (on and off) and a very congested nose and chest. Her chest sounds like its bubbling when she breathes and she''s also developed a dry cough. We are treating all the symptoms as prescribed by the doctors but are worried that this is carrying on for so long. Is she maybe suffering from allergies, we have been having a mould problem in our house? She does attend creche but has been at home now for the past week.

Your little girl developed this infection while at the creche. She probably has what is known as an RS virus infection causing the symptoms you describe. This illness often takes 3 weeks or longer to clear. You must keep her nose clear by using Salex nose drops twice daily. Also give her Mucospect syrup 5ml twice daily to clear the mucous from her chest. She will benefit from being on a probiotic to boost her immunity such as Probiflora Children's once daily for 10 days. When she returns to creche she should be on Creche Guard daily.
